Romanian-style surimi salad

Surimi salad is a Romanian festive-table classic. The raw material makes the difference: premium surimi has a high share of real fish meat, a firm texture and clean sweetness, without the watery taste of cheap versions.

Instructions

  1. Thaw the surimi

Leave the surimi 2 hours in the fridge. It is ready to eat, no cooking at all.

  2. Cut

Slice the surimi into rounds or pull it into strips by hand, whichever texture you prefer. Cube the cucumber and drain the corn.

  3. Mix

Mix the surimi with the corn, cucumber, Kewpie, dill and lemon juice. Add pepper and taste before salting, surimi already brings salt.

  4. Chill and serve

Rest the salad 20 minutes in the fridge. Serve on toast, in a sandwich or straight from the bowl.

Good to know

Kewpie binds the salad creamier than regular mayonnaise and adds umami. Surimi Maki Sticks work identically in this recipe, they are the larger format of the same product.
